Adult Mixed Aerial Dance

Service Description

Do you already love aerial arts, but have trouble choosing between an apparatus to play on? Are you more newly “cirque-curious”, and want to try aerial arts but don’t know where to start? Experience the joyful diversity of the circus with our mixed apparatus aerial dance sampler! Students will have the opportunity to learn and play on lyra (aka aerial hoop), silk sling / hammock, and trapeze. Please note that traditional aerial silks are not covered with this class! All students (regardless of age or prior aerial experience) will start by learning fundamental strength-building and conditioning exercises, and by practicing balance and body awareness both in and out of the air. Students will be taught how to safely mount, dismount, and perform a variety of sequences of moves translated on the various apparatuses over the course of the class series. Spin techniques will be introduced once consistency and confidence have been established within static practice. Young flyers can expect to work towards executing various level-appropriate poses, transitions, rolls, drops, and spins over a multiple class series. Those with demonstrated proficiency will go on to learn progressively more challenging skills, as well as have the opportunity to learn and create original choreography. Class curriculum is flow / dance-centric; this course does not feature higher-risk, more acrobatic / dynamic moves. Open to all levels of experience!
